MAURICE SCHLESINGER
Maurice lives and works in Sydney , Australia. He always had a passionate desire to draw, even as a child, winning his first award for an ink drawing. He had only recently allowed a lifelong passion for fine art to take over from his working life as a graphic designer.
Maurice had studied sculpture with Tom Bass, and painting and drawing at the Julian Ashton Art School . He is equally passionate about sculpture and painting and while he enjoys the discipline of realism, he is also drawn to experimentation and abstraction.
Returning to his old passion, he is relishing the challenge of establishing a personal style constantly extending his capacity to experiment. He accepts the constraint of the need to portray a likeness in a portrait, but is increasingly finding himself introducing less restrictive elements (his portrait of the artist Elisabeth Cummings).
His development as a sculptor grew out of an interest in architecture, and he works on the idea of contributing to the built environment in the form of a large public piece.
“There is no greater joy than using one's skills and talents to create pictures and objects which will give others pleasure,” sais Maurice and he intends to use every opportunity to experience that joy. He is on the constant journey of discovery taking pleasure from every step along the way.
