MARLIES OAKLEY

Marlies was born in Berlin in 1964, moving to London in 1997 and then on to Sydney in 2001.

Moving to Sydney sparked the start of her creative journey, mainly self taught, she has also studied part time at the SCDA, the NAS and COFA, also being a keen student of art history.

She has a wide range of influences, from her up bringing in the divided city of Berlin , to the frenetic pace of London to the natural beauty of the Australian Outback. These can be seen through her work which range from dark passionate pieces, to subtle natural hues, to free flowing organic colours .

Marlies mainly works in acrylics but incorporates other mediums in her work from oils to charcoal to mixed media, adding texture and depth to her paintings depending on where her imagination takes her.

The eclectic nature of Marlies' work can be seen though her artistic influences which range from Expressionists such as Klee and Kandinsky to Fauvists such as Matisse to Australian artists such as Boyd, Fairweather and Nolan.
