ILDIKO HAMMOND
It starts with a vision in my mind’s eye and a passion to paint that vision. Painting for me, is a journey that is meditative, therapeutic and intuitive, flowing with the spontaneity of the creative process. I use forms, textures, materials, colours, patterns and/ or objects, to
convey my ideas and emotions. I also use these as symbols and metaphors in both my figurative and abstract work.
In my abstract pieces, I find myself more commonly drawn to the theme of nature. I use some natural materials, but more often man made objects and fabrics to represent the elements. These are a reflection of man’s own take over of nature. My figurative paintings however, draw on the themes of dream-state, birth, life, death, mythology, good / evil, mysticism, our interactions with each other, our connection to ourselves and to the divine. Though I usually portray the individual in my figurative works, I hope that my figures reflect the broader human essence.
I was born in 1968, to Hungarian parentage and educated with a Diploma of Fine Arts from the National Arts School, East Sydney Tech. I have held numerous solo, and group exhibitions throughout both country and city NSW.
